Bonding technique & adhesive: Industrial precision for bonding points – far more than tape & printing supplies. When you, as a professional, stand before a bodywork and cannot apply leverage, the time for professional bonding technique has come.
We know: In the dent removal field, there are areas that cannot be reached mechanically from the inside – such as roof rails or double sheets. Simple tape or printing supplies are not enough here. You need industrial solutions that can withstand enormous tensile forces physically. In this category, you will find everything for paint-damage-free dent repair using adhesive: From the specialist for glue tabs (adapters) to high-performance adhesive.
Bonding instead of welding: How bonding technique revolutionizes dent repair
In the past, it was often: welding, riveting, or filling. Today, the motto is bonding instead of painting. Modern bonding technique is a proven alternative to classic pushing methods. The process is versatile and preserves the metal’s structure, as no heat-induced stresses or corrosion occur.
The process is as clever as it is efficient:
- Preparation: The surface must be clean (possibly with primer or cleaner) so that the adhesive can optimally wet the paint surface.
- Setting glue tabs: A glue tab (mushroom) is glued to the dent with hot melt adhesive.
- Pulling process: After curing, you gently pull the sheet metal back with a slide hammer or dent lifter.
- Removal: The adhesive can be removed without residue using a liquid (solvent).
Adhesive and physics: Adhesion, cohesion, and the perfect mix
For the bond to hold under strong forces, the choice of adhesive is crucial. It is about the interplay of adhesion and cohesion (adhesive force and internal strength of the adhesive). In our bonding technique section, we offer you products specially tailored to these high demands:
- Hot melt adhesive: Ideal for most dents. Our varieties (e.g., amber-colored, black, purple) offer different strengths for various materials and temperatures.
- Cold adhesive: Products like "Sergio's Cold Glue" are extremely popular. This compound is self-adhesive, permanently elastic, and allows extremely fast pulls without heating time.
- Glue tabs: Our products in the adapter range (red, 10mm to 22mm) are shaped so that the adhesive surface offers optimal area adhesion.
This expert knowledge and know-how distinguish professional tools from commonly available craft supplies or simple double-sided adhesive materials from brands like Tesa or 3M, which are more intended for light fastening. Here, the adhesive must temporarily transfer several kilos of tensile force without the adhesive layer preventing the force from reaching the sheet metal.
Versatile and safe: Products for cold and hot bonding application
The application is safe and protects the paint. A decisive advantage: you avoid mechanically aggressive interventions. Unlike soldering or working with sealants, the paint remains intact. This is technology that – similar to aerospace – focuses on weight saving and material preservation, even though we are not building airplanes here.
In our shop, you will find everything you need to connect all kinds of dent shapes:
- Hot glue guns: Battery-powered or with cable (e.g., Bühnen HB196) for mobile use.
- Slide hammers: From 2000g hammer to the "Dent Slayer" for perfect force distribution.
- Tools: Whether door/hood spreaders or perforated sheet pliers – we have the accessories for further processing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Adhesive technique is the solution when you cannot reach the component from behind (e.g., roof frame, sill). It is also ideal for pulling out large dents before moving on to the fine tuning.
Forget traditional adhesive tape or film. For dent repair, you need special PDR hot melt glue or cold glue. Ordinary glue from printing supplies or safety equipment does not have the necessary tensile strength and often cannot be removed cleanly.
Hot glue (thermally activated) is applied in liquid form and hardens as it cools. It creates an extremely strong bond for firm pulls. Cold glue (like our "Cold Glue" sets in green/red/blue) is a putty-like substance that is immediately self-adhesive and is very effective for quick, sharp pulls ("scoring").
The technique is primarily intended for painted sheet metal and metal surfaces on motor vehicles. The material pairings (paint to adhesive) are secure as long as the paint is intact and the spot has not been filled. With plastic, the pulling technique only works to a limited extent, as the restoring forces act differently than with metal.
Don't worry. Good PDR adhesive is designed so that it can be moistened with some solvent (e.g., cleaning alcohol) and then removed without leaving any residue. A scraper helps with any remains.
That depends on the dent. The shaped punch parts (adapters) should roughly match the shape and size of the dent. We offer sets so that you can respond tailor-made to every dent – whether oval, round, small, or large.
